Black Adam Movie Review: All You Need to Know

The DC Black Panther movie proved to be a huge success, with critics and fans loving the dynamic between T’Challa, aka Black Panther, and his nemesis Erik Killmonger. It seems that as soon as the movie was released there were rumors of a Black Panther spin-off film featuring the latter character, who has previously appeared in the comics as an anti-hero trying to overthrow the Wakandan king. Black Panther is not alone in getting the spin-off treatment; there are also plans for a Shuri solo movie, which will see Letitia Wright reprise her role from Black Panther. However, it’s not just individual characters who are set to get their own movies: there’s also going to be a standalone film focusing on another iconic Marvel villain – one that many viewers would have been hoping would make an appearance in Black Panther but never did. That villain is none other than Erik Killmonger himself – or rather, his alter-ego: Black Adam.

Who is Black Adam?

Black Adam is the main villain in the Shazam comic books, but has also featured in some iterations of the Shazam TV series. In the comics, he’s an Egyptian prince named Teth-Adam who gains the power to take on the form of an ancient super-powered being called Black Adam by speaking the name “Shazam.” Black Adam will be played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the film version: the Rock has been attached to this character for several years and is credited with bringing attention to the character, which may explain why he’s been given his own film. Black Adam is an anti-hero who is often portrayed as a foil to Captain Marvel, who is one of the Justice League’s most powerful members. The two characters have been engaged in an ongoing feud since the 1940s, and are often seen fighting each other in the comics. Despite this feud, they have also been known to team up on a few occasions.

What Is the Black Adam Movie About?

In the comics, Black Adam was once a member of the Egyptian army, and was given the power to become a super-powered being called Black Adam by an ancient wizard named Shazam. The two characters have been fighting ever since, but in this film version, we will see the story from Adam’s point of view. The film will follow the events that led to Adam becoming a super-powered villain. The movie will be set in the “New Gods” universe, although it has been confirmed that this is not the same set-up as the DC Universe. If you’re wondering why this film has been given the name “New Gods” when the comics take place in the “Shazam” universe, it’s because the film is inspired by the New Gods comics written by Jack Kirby, who also created the Black Panther. The film is set thousands of years in the past, and will also feature a race of super-beings called the biblical Ancient Egyptians.

When Is The Black Adam Movie Coming Out?

The first reports of a Black Adam movie came in the summer of 2017, when it was revealed that the film would be released in February 2019. In February 2018, the release date was pushed back a year to make room for The Curse of the Gargoyles, a spin-off film that focuses on the Justice League villain Dr. Johnathan Crane (AKA Scarecrow). The Curse of the Gargoyles, starring Ray Fisher as Cyborg, is expected to be released in 2020. The Black Adam movie has now been confirmed for a release on June 5, 2021, which will make it the second DC film to be released that year after Wonder Woman 84.

Confirmed cast members

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam since 2012. In January 2018, it was confirmed that he would be starring in the film, and that he would also be producing the movie under his production company, Seven Bucks Productions. Black Adam will be the first comic book character that Johnson has played since his days as a wrestler. The wrestler-turned-actor has already proven his ability to bring comic book characters to life through his work as Luke Hobbs in the Fast and Furious franchise. Noah Hathaway, who is best known for his role as Atreyu in the 1982 version of The Neverending Story, has been cast as the young version of Black Adam. It’s not yet known who will play the adult version of the character.

Where Will The Black Adam Movie Be Set?

As mentioned above, the Black Adam movie will be set in the “New Gods” universe, and will take place thousands of years in the past. This means the movie will be set in ancient Egypt, where Teth-Adam will be challenged by the wizard Shazam to prove that he’s worthy of using his powers. This ancient setting will also allow the film to feature the biblical Ancient Egyptians, who were traditionally enemies of the people of Egypt. This ancient setting will also allow the film to feature the biblical Ancient Egyptians, who were traditionally enemies of the people of Egypt.

Possible villains and allies

We don’t know who will be cast in the roles of the film’s villains or allies. However, we do know that the film will be a prequel and will take place thousands of years in the past, which means that the characters we know from the comics will be completely different people. This means that we won’t be seeing the likes of Captain Marvel, Black Adam’s arch-nemesis, in this film. What we do know is that the Black Adam movie will feature the biblical Ancient Egyptians, who are enemies of the people of Egypt. This suggests that we may see other people from the New Gods universe in this film.

Bottom line

While the Black Adam movie has been in the works for several years, it’s only recently that details have begun to emerge about what direction the film will take. The New Gods universe is quite a departure from the Shazam universe where the character was originally created, but there’s no denying that The Rock’s portrayal of Black Adam is one that fans will be excited to see. With the film set to be released in just over two years’ time, fans will have to wait a while longer before they get to see how the Black Adam movie turns out.
